Huawei Mate XT 2 Launches: Adopts Samsung Trifold & Privacy Display

Huawei has officially launched its latest trifold smartphone in China, incorporating design elements clearly inspired by Samsung. The original Mate XT, which debuted in late 2024, utilized an accordion-style folding mechanism that eliminated the need for an outer cover screen but left parts of the fragile flexible display permanently exposed to potential damage.

In contrast, the new Mate XT 2 adopts an inward-folding design for both sides of its 10.2-inch flexible screen, taking direct inspiration from Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold to protect the display from harm.

Furthermore, the device introduces a privacy OLED display, a feature previously seen only on Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year, which limits viewing angles to shield sensitive on-screen content from prying eyes.

The privacy display function operates by activating pixels that emit light at narrower angles, causing the screen to appear nearly black when viewed from the sides while remaining fully visible head-on. This capability is offered as an optional extra, restricted to users who purchase the 16GB of RAM and 1TB storage configuration and pay an additional 1,000 yuan, roughly $150.

Beyond the display upgrades, the Mate XT 2 is equipped with Huawei's new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, enhanced water-resistance boasting an IP59 rating, and a triple rear camera setup. The device launched in China with a starting price of 19,999 yuan, approximately $3,000, though details regarding an international release remain unconfirmed.
