On July 31 at the Dindaeng City Hall, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, alongside executives, Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMC) members, and relevant officials, attended the third ordinary meeting of the third session for 2026. The assembly convened to deliberate the first reading of the BMA's draft expenditure ordinance for the fiscal year 2027, presided over by BMC President Ms. Patraphorn Kengrungruangchai.
Before the session officially commenced, the council president and the governor engaged in an intense discussion, reflecting deeply focused expressions that occasionally softened into relaxed smiles and laughter. The meetings are scheduled to run continuously for two full days, concluding around 5:00 PM, with live broadcasts available for citizens via the Bangkok Metropolitan Council's Facebook and YouTube channels.
The sole agenda item for the session is the review of the fiscal year 2027 budget draft proposed by the executive branch and various departments. Particular attention is being paid to resource distribution across districts and departments, especially the Public Works Department and the Drainage and Sewerage Department, which currently handle significant backlogs of pending work.
The annual budget deliberation is a critical mechanism for steering municipal policies and allocating city resources. Allowing public access through live streams and participatory workshops represents a major milestone in enhancing governmental transparency and encouraging civic engagement in local administration.
Discussions also encompass the continuation of the nine-policy framework initiated during the previous administration, alongside evaluations of proposals for any new projects submitted by city executives. Furthermore, the council addressed the disclosure of select select committee meeting results, marking a vital step toward transparency despite prior debates during the July 31 session, where council members ultimately passed the regulation with 40 votes out of 44 participants.
As part of ongoing civic engagement initiatives, the BMA has scheduled the #Hackงบกทม70 event on August 8. Open free of charge from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Dindaeng City Hall, the program invites citizens to learn about municipal budget structures, financial documents, project analysis, and government spending oversight.
