Your Fitbit data can now connect directly to Apple Health

Wearable device users are getting a long-awaited capability as Google rolls out a software update enabling direct connection between Fitbit data and Apple Health. As previously reported by 9to5Mac, users can now sync their workouts, step counts, vitals, and other health metrics straight to Apple's ecosystem.

Setting up the integration is a straightforward process within the updated application, following these steps:

• Open the Google Health application to version 5.05
• Tap on your user profile icon
• Select the Partner apps menu option
• Choose Apple Health to link your data directly

Before this update, data sharing was strictly a one-way street where users could import Apple Health information into Google Health, but not vice versa. Bridging this gap previously required relying on third-party applications such as Power Sync for Fitbit or Fitbit to Apple Health Sync, alongside various other workaround methods.

Google Health originally replaced the traditional Fitbit application back in May. That initial transition faced a somewhat rocky rollout as users raised concerns regarding the newly introduced AI health coach, user interface design, and other software issues, though Google has worked to address several of those complaints since launch.

Alongside the Apple Health connectivity update, Google announced a new feature called Smart Health Links tailored for users located in the United States, allowing them to share medical records securely with a healthcare provider or family member.

To generate a link, users can navigate to the Health tab, select the Medical section, choose Shareable records, and tap the plus icon. From there, specific data points can be selected to generate a shareable URL or QR code.
