Following the recent visit by Newin Chidwech, chairman of the Buriram United football club, along with club executives and players to pay respects at the Nakhon Si Thammarat City Pillar Shrine and the Jatukham Rammathep deity on July 31, 2025, intense public debate erupted. Newin previously clarified that the journey was entirely a private matters, completely separate from government agencies or official duties, noting that everyone accompanying him consisted of personal guests honoring him and the team.
On August 4, Miss Phimphattra Wichaikul, a Member of Parliament for Nakhon Si Thammarat representing the Bhumjaithai Party, addressed the controversy as the local host welcoming visitors to pay homage to the revered sacred shrine. She emphasized that the shrine holds deep spiritual significance for locals and international visitors alike from across Asia, including China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, maintaining this tradition peacefully for over a decade. She expressed surprise as to why the visit became a contentious issue only this year, while confirming she welcomes all constructive criticism with an open mind.

However, tensions escalated during the morning of the same day when veteran politician Nipit Indrasombat published targeted remarks going as far as suggesting that Phimphattra wash Newin's shorts. Phimphattra admitted that she was initially shocked and taken aback that a senior figure would resort to such belittling language against a much younger female politician. Although she quickly shook off the remarks, considering the source, she noted the inappropriate nature of the senior politician's approach.
This political clash highlights the ongoing friction within Thai political culture between veteran figures and newer generations, particularly concerning the use of sarcastic rhetoric on social media. Responding by pivoting the conversation toward tangible public service and community performance serves as a modern political strategy to neutralize personal attacks and shift public focus back to legislative duties.

Phimphattra concluded by stating that she has long moved past outdated political tactics centered on generating empty rhetoric and exchanging insults without delivering any tangible benefits to the public or the nation. Instead, she chooses to focus on improving her own legislative performance and working harder for the constituents. She emphasized that individuals always know the truth behind their actions and chose to harbor no resentment toward Nipit, noting that words ultimately serve as a reflection of a person's true character.
