A Guide to Preparing Your Azure Environment for Cloud Management

Managing systems on the Azure cloud platform involves the complete set of processes and tasks required to maintain business applications and the underlying support resources—not only on Azure, but also across other cloud environments and an organization's on-premises IT systems. This represents the full lifecycle of every resource from initial deployment to decommissioning.

Before moving on to more complex processes such as monitoring, governance, or security, the very first task administrators must undertake is creating actual components, providing real resources to genuinely practice management skills.

In this tutorial series, users will build a small yet fully functional environment consisting of the following key infrastructure components:

• A Resource Group to serve as a container gathering various components together.
• A Virtual Network for system connectivity.
• A Linux Virtual Machine to act as a processing workload.
• A Storage Account for data storage.

An important precaution for those who already have existing resources in their Subscriptions is to clearly note down existing items to prevent accidentally deleting critical data later on, since utilizing Resource Groups allows for easily managing and deleting all related resources simultaneously.

This small-scale simulated environment is designed as a sandbox for preparation before future articles dive deeper into network configuration details, such as Subnets, Address Spaces, and security rules that are initially skipped.
