The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has welcomed TransNusa Airlines on the operation of its inaugural direct flight between Jakarta and Bangkok. The expansion of regional direct flights by carriers like TransNusa highlights the sustained growth of Free Independent Travelers (FIT) and family segments from Indonesia. Direct connectivity significantly cuts travel friction and enhances itinerary flexibility, meeting the evolving preferences of modern travelers seeking seamless regional mobility.

The launch builds upon separate Memorandums of Understanding signed by TAT with TransNusa Airlines and Traveloka on August 4, 2026, focusing on destination marketing, travel product development, and enhanced air links between Indonesia and Thailand. Under the TransNusa agreement, a direct Bali–Phuket route is scheduled to launch in late 2026, backed by joint marketing campaigns to increase destination visibility.

Official statistics show that between January 1 and August 2, 2026, Thailand welcomed 378,881 Indonesian visitors, who stayed an average of six days. Approximately 85 percent traveled independently, and 53 percent were repeat visitors. Key destinations included Bangkok, Songkhla, Chon Buri, Phuket, and Krabi, with popular activities ranging from Thai dining and historical sightseeing to community-based tourism, spa treatments, and beach holidays.
