PM and Myanmar President Launch Thailand–Myanmar Business Forum 2026 to Boost Border Trade

The Thai Prime Minister delivered a welcoming address at the joint opening ceremony with the President of Myanmar, emphasizing a new chapter of economic cooperation built upon mutual trust and shared prosperity. The leader stressed that regardless of political shifts, the primary duty of the government is to ensure public well-being, job creation, and economic stability.

Highlighting historical economic ties, the private sector has long served as a vital engine connecting both nations through employment and investments. Current bilateral trade exceeds 7,400 million US dollars, spanning critical sectors such as energy, manufacturing, logistics, and real estate.

Key outcomes and agreements reached during the bilateral discussions include:

• The reopening of the Second Thailand–Myanmar Friendship Bridge connecting Mae Sot and Myawaddy
• Evaluation of new border checkpoint openings in prepared areas to facilitate local commerce
• Thailand hosting the Joint Trade Commission meeting between commerce ministers
• Establishment of a joint working group on connectivity to improve transport infrastructure

In the energy sector, both administrations agreed to advance existing cooperation projects to reinforce energy security. Furthermore, the Thai government pledged to support business operators by reducing regulatory hurdles, encouraging continued investment in energy, agriculture, and future industries.
