Ronnie Fieg rebuilds two classic BMWs in archival Inka Orange for Kith's 15th anniversary
A 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi and a 1987 BMW M6 undergo total frame-off restorations finished in a legendary 1971 BMW shade.

Marking the 15th anniversary of Kith, founder Ronnie Fieg has teamed up with BMW to revitalize two grand tourers separated by exactly 15 years. A 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi E9 and a 1987 BMW M6 E24 have been stripped down to bare metal, completely rebuilt, and coated in Inka Orange, an archival BMW paint shade originally introduced on the 02 Series back in 1971.
This pair serves as the automotive centerpiece for the fourth collaboration between Kith and the German automaker, continuing a sequence rooted in historical vehicle colors. Previous chapters introduced Cinnabar Red via the E30 M3, alongside Kith-developed Vitality Green and Techno Violet. In this iteration, the striking orange hue spans two distinct eras of BMW grand touring, bridging the slim pillars of the E9 with the aggressive stance of the E24.
The older 1972 3.0 CSi received the most extensive historical treatment, undergoing a complete frame-off restoration down to its bare metal frame, followed by KTL treatment and the fresh Inka Orange coat. Authentic components sourced directly through BMW archives were reinstalled, including its M30 straight-six engine, transmission, rear axle, suspension, and brakes.

Inside, the cabin is swathed in caramel leather featuring Kith’s embossed monogram across the upholstery. Restored gauges and traditional wood trim preserve the E9's vintage aesthetic, while the warm leather tone offers a rich contrast against the vibrant exterior paint.

Following the conclusion of E9 production in 1975, the E24 6 Series emerged as its spiritual successor, prompting Fieg to place the M6 directly beside the 3.0 CSi. The 1987 coupe sports the matching Inka Orange exterior and caramel interior, though its extended front end and sharp beltline grant the vintage color a completely different visual attitude.
Applying an archival high-visibility color originally meant for early 1970s poor weather conditions onto a late 1980s grand tourer creates an intentional historical cross-pollination. This approach elevates the pairing beyond standard restorations, turning the vehicles into a rolling color study that highlights how BMW's grand touring proportions evolved over a decade and a half.
The M6 rebuild matches the meticulousness of its predecessor. Placed on a rotisserie and stripped to bare metal, the car was reconstructed around its original S38 inline-six engine and Getrag five-speed manual transmission. Its differential, suspension, brakes, and OEM BBS Style 5 wheels were completely overhauled, while the caramel leather cabin mirrors the embossed monogram of the 3.0 CSi.
These two bespoke BMWs also lay the aesthetic groundwork for the broader Kith for BMW 2026 apparel and accessory collection, scheduled for a global release on August 17th.
