Apple has rolled out the fifth beta of iOS 27 for users on Monday, August 10. As the official fall release approaches, the scale of new features introduced in each beta update is naturally scaling down. While beta 5 is certainly not a massive feature-packed update, it brings several notable changes and adjustments that Apple did not initially announce at WWDC.
Before installing the update on a compatible iPhone, users should keep in mind the inherent risks of running unreleased software. It is strongly recommended to back up your data to prevent potential loss if a downgrade back to iOS 26 becomes necessary. Once updated, users will immediately notice refreshed app icons. For instance, Safari features fewer ticks on its compass, a slightly adjusted blue background, and a distinct center screw reminiscent of iOS 7's flat design, alongside similar subtle tweaks to Settings and the App Store.

For Siri, the app icon has transformed into a glowing gray orb replacing the previous colorful looping design. Furthermore, the "Enhanced Voice" feature, which allows users to customize Siri AI's pace and expressivity, has expanded its capabilities. While the first four betas restricted this to American English accents, iOS 27 beta 5 now supports British English voices as well, offering a total of 11 different voice options according to 9to5Mac.

Diving into the Settings app under the "Search Settings" menu reveals a new section called "Before Searching" with three sub-settings. The primary addition is "Suggest Apps" allowing control over how many suggested apps appear in Siri Suggestions (defaulting to eight), alongside options for app shortcuts and hiding recent searches.
These incremental adjustments in late-stage betas highlight Apple's attention to detail ahead of the public release. Expanding voice localizations like British English for Siri demonstrates a continued push toward deeper personalization and refined user experience across global markets.
Additionally, as reported by Apple Insider, the software now displays the exact date when the current iOS version was installed. Another minor interface tweak stops displaying cellular network types like LTE or 5G in the Control Center while connected to Wi-Fi, requiring users to disconnect from Wi-Fi to check their cellular status.
