People's Party MPs Leave Nonthaburi Provincial CEO Decision to Executive Board

At 7:40 PM on August 13, Panyarat Nanthaphusitanont, Member of Parliament for Nonthaburi Constituency 2 and a key figure of the People's Party in Nonthaburi province, disclosed updates regarding the consideration of whether to send a candidate for the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) president election. She stated that she had consulted with all eight People's Party MPs across the eight constituencies, resulting in a joint resolution to contest the election provided that a suitable and competent individual is found to challenge rival candidates.
However, the group of MPs has not yet proposed any specific names, opting instead to monitor the announcements from the Phueng Luang group first, while noting that the available options appear limited. When reporters asked whether the eight MPs nominated anyone to the party, Panyarat clarified that no names were submitted due to time constraints. Instead, they outlined general qualifying criteria required for potential candidates.

Local provincial elections, such as the Nonthaburi PAO race, serve as strategic battlegrounds for national political parties. Delegating the final nomination power to the central executive board highlights strict adherence to structural screening processes, aimed at preventing internal friction and securing candidates who balance party ideology with crucial local political alliances.
According to the discussions among the MPs, the necessary qualifications for a candidate include:
- Residing in Nonthaburi province for at least one year.
- Holding membership in the People's Party and sharing the same political ideology.
- Possessing a track record of working with the party along with demonstrated competence.
- Demonstrating the ability to communicate and collaborate with all sides, both inside and outside the party and across local political groups.
Regarding her relationship with Mr. Thongchai, Panyarat affirmed that they maintain a positive rapport, communicate regularly, and offer mutual encouragement. She noted that it is standard procedure for party members and MPs to support party operations if a candidate is officially fielded, while still preserving good friendships with peers.
"Both things considered, the decision to send a candidate for the Nonthaburi PAO president this time lies with the executive board. We do not yet know who will run. The party simply asked for the provincial MPs' opinions, and we unanimously agreed that if a suitable person exists, we should run; if not, we shouldn't, leaving the authority entirely to the party to decide."

Panyarat concluded by mentioning that she had not discussed the matter directly with the party leader, but had instead consulted with Kittichai, the deputy leader in charge of local affairs. Both shared the same viewpoint that the matter must be reported to the party's executive board for final deliberation and decision-making.
