Instagram has officially rolled out a brand new wordmark logo, marking the platform's first major typography redesign in a full decade aimed at giving the brand a more modern aesthetic and fresh visual appeal.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, explained that the updated text logo focuses on a clean and contemporary look while still honoring the simple design principles and unique identity that the platform has maintained over the years.

However, shortly after the new text logo debuted, a significant number of social media users began mocking the design. Many pointed out that it no longer reads clearly as Instagram, looking much more like Instagzam instead due to the letter r resembling a z, while others noted portions that appeared to spell Instagwam.
"เน้นความสะอาดตา ทันสมัย แต่ยังคงยึดโยงถึงการออกแบบเดิมที่เน้นความเรียบง่าย และความเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของอินสตาแกรม"
Regarding the design characteristics, the font utilized in the new wordmark evokes the feel of continuous handwriting, featuring retro-style curves on both the letter s and the letter r. While these stylistic choices inject a sense of novelty and fresh energy, they also result in typography that is somewhat difficult to read.
Redesigning a global tech brand's wordmark always sparks intense public reaction, particularly when balancing aesthetic novelty against functional readability. Introducing handwritten or retro-curved fonts helps foster a more artistic and approachable brand personality, though legibility challenges frequently trigger user resistance during initial rollouts.
Alongside the primary logo update, PR representatives from Meta also announced updates to Instagram's dedicated font family, which includes Instagram Sans, the signature handwriting font Instagram Pen, and the fixed-width typeface Instagram Mono.
Notably, the core application icon featuring the vibrant pink-and-orange gradient remains completely unchanged. That iconic app icon last underwent a major overhaul back in 2016, transitioning away from the original brown camera icon adorned with a rainbow stripe.
