On August 16, government house reports revealed that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul is scheduled to pay an official visit to the Commonwealth of Australia and New Zealand from August 17 to 22, 2026, aiming to strengthen relations and expand economic and investment opportunities. The visit to Australia from August 17 to 20 marks the first official prime ministerial visit in 14 years at the invitation of the Australian Prime Minister, preparing for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Thailand-Australia diplomatic relations in 2027.
During his stay in Australia, the Prime Minister will travel to Sydney and Canberra to hold bilateral talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, sign agreements, and jointly address the press. He will also pay courtesy calls on the Governor-General of Australia Sam Mostyn and the Governor of New South Wales, as well as meet with the opposition leader. Key agendas include delivering a keynote speech at the Lowy Institute, meeting executives and visiting Canva and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), and visiting the Thai community in Thai Town and Wat Buddharangsee. Key areas of discussion will cover politics, security, defense, transnational crime suppression, trade, investment, energy, digital technology, and innovation.
