Payment giant Stripe has finalized an agreement to acquire OpenRouter, an AI gateway startup, according to a recent report published by Bloomberg. This development follows earlier reports from The Wall Street Journal last month indicating that both companies were engaged in acquisition talks.
OpenRouter operates by enabling customers to select various artificial intelligence models to execute specific tasks based on their individual needs and financial budgets. The platform functions as a single access point for multiple systems, which helps prevent vendor lock-in for its users.
Back in May, OpenRouter announced that it had successfully secured $113 million in a Series B funding round, which valued the startup at $1.3 billion. Prominent investors in that round included Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, Menlo Ventures, and Alphabet’s Capital G.
