On August 17, 2026, Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong joined the House Committee on Legal Affairs, Justice, and Human Rights on a fact-finding mission to Thailand's southern border provinces. The committee began its first day by meeting individuals affected by human rights violations at the Sahabat Restaurant near Suan Khwan Mueang, Mueang Yala District, Yala Province, to gather in-depth information regarding local hardships.
Following that, the committee traveled to the Forward Command of the Royal Thai Police (Southern Border Provinces) in Mueang Yala District to study law enforcement operations by police officers in the deep south. The meeting permitted media coverage during the opening session before moving behind closed doors for a comprehensive briefing and discussion with high-ranking security officials.
This committee inspection in the southern border region highlights ongoing legislative efforts to oversee state power and the application of special security laws, which remain critical and sensitive issues. On August 18, 2026, the committee will continue its trip to Songkhla Province to examine law enforcement regarding immigration checkpoint development and border economic growth at the Pha Dam Room, Sadao District Office, Songkhla Province, aiming to balance trade facilitation with security regulations.
