The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is advancing the nation's wellness tourism by introducing Thailand Surf Therapy to global audiences under the core theme "Healing Is the New Luxury." Building on Thailand Health Excellence 2026, TAT and its partners have integrated international surf therapy expertise and science-based wellness principles into Thailand's coastal tourism offerings.
Designed as a structured wellness experience rather than medical treatment, the concept blends surfing, nature, physical movement, mindfulness, and positive social connections, drawing on expertise shared by South Africa-based Waves for Change.

In Khao Lak, Phang-nga, one of Thailand's premier surf destinations, participants experienced guided surf therapy at Memories Surf House, featuring sessions on water safety, movement, and progressive surf skills. The broader itinerary connected surfing with wellness at Devasom Khao Lak and La Vita Sana, forest bathing at Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park, kayaking at the Little Amazon in Takua Pa, cultural explorations in Takua Pa Old Town and Phuket Old Town, and farm-to-table dining at Michelin Guide-listed restaurants.
Running concurrently, an Amazing Thailand x Insta360 collaboration brought 18 content creators from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Thailand on a dedicated itinerary across Phuket and Phang-nga from August 8 to 12. Their content across Instagram Stories, Reels, and TikTok captured these experiences for international audiences.
"Healing Is the New Luxury reflects a shift in what travellers increasingly value: meaningful experiences that reconnect them with nature, support their wellbeing and create lasting value."
Ms. Eurblarp Sriphiromya, Executive Director of TAT’s Tourism Products Department
The concept of "Healing Is the New Luxury" highlights a major global shift in post-pandemic travel preferences, where tourists increasingly seek meaningful, restorative experiences rather than traditional luxury. By merging the physical engagement of surfing with structured mental wellness practices, TAT is creating high-value, distinctive tourism products that leverage Thailand's coastal resources while promoting sustainable wellness tourism.
Both groups converged on August 9 at "The Wave of Healing" Networking Dinner at La Solaya in Khao Lak, supported by TAT’s Tourism Products Department and the TAT Phang-nga Office. The event connected international participants with tourism operators and project stakeholders. Furthermore, local partners have successfully developed a commercial 5-day, 4-night Surf Therapy program complete with accommodation, wellness activities, and meals for international visitors.
