Led by TAT offices in Shanghai, Chengdu, and Beijing, this localized approach aims to attract high-value visitors while introducing fresh travel routes and distributing economic gains to emerging Thai destinations.
Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, noted that Chinese travellers are showing greater diversity in choosing destinations and experiences. TAT is responding with a focused regional strategy aligning Thailand's tourism strengths with specific market interests, centering on wellness, sports, culture, communities, and secondary locations.

In eastern China, TAT’s Shanghai Office targets premium travellers through wellness and experiential tourism. Partnering with LANN Space, a Chinese mindfulness platform, and online travel agency Tuniu.com, TAT promotes restorative travel in Saraburi and Khao Yai. Promotional videos were also screened over 2,500 times across five cinemas in Shanghai alongside a broadcast reaching over five million viewers in Jiangsu.
In western China, TAT’s Chengdu Office emphasizes sports tourism and creator-led content. Collaborating with Zx-tour, a Chinese sports travel specialist, TAT hosted a marathon sharing session in Chengdu to engage fitness enthusiasts and promote running events in Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Buri Ram, Hua Hin, and Songkhla, alongside creator fam trips to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
"Chinese travellers are becoming more diverse in how they choose destinations and experiences. TAT is responding with a more focused regional strategy that matches Thailand’s tourism strengths with the interests of each market."

TAT's shift toward a micro-regional strategy highlights a sophisticated understanding of post-recovery Chinese consumer behavior, where travel motivations vary significantly by region. By aligning targeted campaigns—such as wellness tourism in the east and marathon events in the west—TAT optimizes its marketing efficiency to capture high-spending traveler segments.
In northern China, TAT’s Beijing Office focuses on summer family holidays and secondary provincial markets. Partnering in Jilin Province, TAT showcased Thai culture and soft power through events attracting over 80,000 participants, supported by a seven percent increase in direct airline seat capacity from Jilin compared to 2025.
China remains Thailand's leading international source market, recording 3,149,889 arrivals between January 1 and August 5, 2026. Backed by the Trusted Thailand initiative ensuring safety and service standards, TAT expects Chinese visitor numbers to exceed five million for the full year.
