Nous Research has officially rolled out Bot Mode for Hermes Desktop on desktop environments at no license cost, with both the Hermes Agent and the plugin operating under the MIT license.
Initially tested as a one-day public beta plugin following bug reports collected by Teknium, the feature has now been bundled and enabled by default inside Hermes Desktop under Settings, within the Plugins section.

The core concept behind Bot Mode turns standard agent profiles into a roster of named bots. Each individual bot resides within ~/.hermes/profiles/ featuring completely isolated configurations, memory, skills, credentials, and chat histories.
When utilizing the New Agent dialog, users are prompted to enter a name, title, and description, while an advanced menu allows for cloning existing profiles, pinning specific model providers, writing custom SOUL.md files, or skipping unwanted skills.
Isolating the memory and configuration of each bot prevents context leakage between distinct projects, enabling solo builders and engineering teams to deploy specialized AI assistants tailored to specific workflows safely.
Furthermore, avatars can be customized using seven geometric shapes across ten colors, uploaded images, generated portraits, or attached pixel pets whose eyes actively scan while the respective bot is processing tasks.
The in-tree version introduces enhanced capabilities absent from the original beta, such as labeled groups that sync across different machines, shared group chat rooms supporting two to six bots, and serial response rounds triggered by @mentions.
These updates have landed alongside Hermes Agent v0.20.3, bundling the core teammate protocol directly into the primary desktop application while the standalone repository remains officially archived.
