On August 18, 2026, the House of Representatives' Committee on Legal Affairs, Justice, and Human Rights, led by Chairperson Rangsiman Rome alongside Pol. Col. Thavee Sodsong, leader of the Prachachat Party and committee advisor, conducted a field study visit. The inspection focused on law enforcement, the administration of justice, and human rights protection to support the peace-building process in Thailand's southern border provinces, taking place in Yala and Songkhla from August 17 to 18.
During a discussion with police officers at the Forward Operations Command of the Royal Thai Police in Mueang Yala district on August 17, Pol. Col. Thavee addressed the overall unrest situation. He noted that while the government aims to bring peace to the south by 2027, state officials and vulnerable groups remain frequent targets of attacks. Therefore, officers must remain vigilant, avoid carelessness, and refrain from shifting blame onto civilians, specifically highlighting the fatal shooting of Narathiwat MP Kamolsak Leormork.
This parliamentary field inspection underscores ongoing efforts to ensure rigorous oversight of state authorities in Thailand's southern region. Restoring public trust in the judicial process remains a fundamental challenge for lasting peace, making high-level political pressure for transparent ballistic and investigative work vital to counter suspicions of state involvement.
Addressing the puzzle surrounding the weaponry, Pol. Col. Thavee pointed out that two guns were involved in the case. He requested police to check records from manufacturers and the Thai Customs Department to trace which agency purchased them, noting that the weapon used in the shooting had previously been spotted behind Narathiwat Rajanakarin University.

Thavee instructed authorities to expand their investigation into intelligence or investigative personnel reportedly shadowing MP Kamolsak prior to the incident, aiming to establish facts and deliver fairness to all parties involved. He also offered words of encouragement to frontline officers carrying out security duties in the restive southern region.
