French designer Alexandre Veillon has breathed new life into a 19th-century coffee table, reshaping it into a mechanical canine through a hybrid creation titled Let the Dog Out. The piece merges the delicate craftsmanship of antique furniture with the articulated hardware of modern computer arms, resulting in a silhouette that resembles an animal caught right between resting and sprinting.
The creative journey began with a question Veillon had pondered for quite some time: why manufacture brand-new objects when so many already exist? Instead of building from scratch, the designer took a vintage table, removed its conventional supports, and installed four articulated computer arms accompanied by polished metal joints, chains, and exposed mechanisms.

The wooden tabletop preserves the aesthetic language of 19th-century furniture, featuring an irregular outline, rich brown tones, and small metallic accents scattered across the surface. Beneath this historical top, the computer arms introduce an entirely contrasting vocabulary composed of hinges, bolts, and mechanical limbs.
This design highlights the growing upcycling and circular economy movement in contemporary furniture design.
