Yotsanan, Suriya and Jaset set Single Command for Nan floods

At approximately 8:00 PM, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yotsanan Wongsuwan, acting as incident commander, together with Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Suriya Juangroongruangkit and Deputy Minister of Interior Jaset Thaisaenth, visited the N.1 water measuring station (Northern Development Bridge) in Mueang Nan district, Nan province, to closely monitor the flood situation.
Accompanying the high-level delegation were Royal Irrigation Department Director-General Wittaya Kaewmee, Nan Governor Chainarong Wongyai, and former MP candidate Songyot Ramsut. Following the inspection, Agriculture Minister Suriya instructed the Royal Irrigation Department and local irrigation projects to monitor rainfall and water levels around the clock while swiftly deploying heavy machinery and water pumps to critical zones.
The latest measurement of the Nan River at Station N.1 recorded the water level at 7.62 meters above mean sea level. Although it remains 0.88 meters below the reinforced embankment level, water levels continue to rise steadily. Warnings have been issued for residents along both banks in Phu Phiang and Mueang districts to watch for overflows between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM, with water expected to spill over the Mueang district embankment by up to 0.60 meters between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM on August 20.
"The lives of citizens are our top priority. We urge residents in at-risk areas to evacuate to safe zones first and elevate belongings by at least 60 centimeters."

Yotsanan revealed that following the Prime Minister's directives, a Single Command emergency operations center has been established, enabling the cabinet and all relevant agencies to maintain round-the-clock monitoring and command on the ground. While speaking to reporters, a Cell Broadcast emergency alert was transmitted directly to mobile phones of residents in hazard zones to ensure immediate preparedness.
Implementing a Single Command structure during major flood crises is crucial for streamlining coordination between central and local authorities. This unified approach eliminates bureaucratic delays in decision-making and ensures that heavy equipment and relief personnel are deployed to affected communities as rapidly and efficiently as possible during critical moments.
Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Nan Provincial Administrative Organization to prepare pre-emptive measures for swift rehabilitation and recovery operations as soon as floodwaters recede. After inspecting Station N.1, Yotsanan proceeded to the Nan Provincial Operations Center to assess the situation alongside the provincial governor, district chiefs, provincial police, ISOC, military representatives, and volunteer Nakorn Silachai (Ple Nakorn) who joined to support relief efforts.
