MP Clears Narucha of Exam Fraud as Korat Revokes 151

On August 22, Mr. Asaphol Sarntraiphop, a Member of Parliament for Sisaket province from the Bhumjaithai Party and Chairman of the House Committee on Preventing and Suppressing Corruption, addressed his previous interview on the Inside Thailand program concerning the local civil service examination corruption case, which previously mentioned Mr. Narucha Khosasivilai, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration and former head of the Department of Local Administration. He explained that loud ambient noise during the interview led to a misunderstanding and misstatement of facts.
Mr. Asaphol firmly asserted that Director-General Narucha has no involvement in the corruption scandal. In fact, Narucha was the official who signed the order establishing a new Terms of Reference (TOR) drafting committee following the arrest of the municipal clerk of Nakhon Ratchasima. On August 27, the committee will formally invite the chairperson and members of the new TOR drafting committee to provide detailed testimony regarding the incident.

The corruption scandal surrounding local government examinations highlights structural vulnerabilities in public sector recruitment, where middleman networks often exploit testing processes. Parliamentary scrutiny and asset seizure measures by agencies like Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) play a critical role in dismantling these illicit networks and holding perpetrators accountable.

Furthermore, during a recent committee meeting, the secretary to the legal fact-finding team under Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapan reported that the 30-day investigation targeting administrative officials has concluded. The case has now shifted to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), AMLO, and the Anti-Corruption Division (ACD) for further legal proceedings, with AMLO preparing asset confiscations soon. Meanwhile, Nakhon Ratchasima Governor Anupong Suksomnit confirmed that the provincial administration is strictly executing legal orders to revoke the examination rights of 151 local government personnel involved in the irregularity.
