Jean-Philippe Mateta has reportedly argued that the remainder of his Crystal Palace contract is invalid, taking his ongoing dispute directly to FIFA. Multiple sources indicate the France international has launched an official challenge concerning the final 10 months of his agreement at Selhurst Park, which is scheduled to expire in June 2027.
Mateta initially joined Palace from Mainz 05 in 2021 before signing a four-and-a-half-year deal in January 2022 that included a 12-month extension option. The club triggered that option in 2024, placing the striker under contract until the end of the upcoming campaign. However, the 29-year-old contends that this final optional year should be declared void, with his case previously heard by an independent tribunal under Premier League regulations.
Although the tribunal outcome was not officially confirmed, understanding suggested the contract remained fully binding. Mateta has since escalated the matter to world football governing body FIFA, which ruled earlier in the week that overruling the contract fell outside its jurisdiction.
