Norris wins his first grand prix of year in Hungary

Lando Norris claimed his and McLaren's first grand prix victory of the year following a compelling and dramatic race at the Hungaroring, holding off late pressure while championship protagonists battled intensely behind him.

Norris started from pole position and maintained a clean getaway initially, but a mistake at Turn Two allowed his teammate Oscar Piastri to seize the race lead, leaving McLaren holding the top two spots with the slower car leading the pack.

The race dynamic shifted during the second round of pit stops. McLaren called Piastri in first to cover a potential threat from Lewis Hamilton, allowing Norris to run six laps longer on his initial set before taking on fresh rubber and returning to the track just ahead of his teammate, who had been delayed by an incident with Williams driver Carlos Sainz.

Although Piastri was visibly frustrated by the team's strategy, Norris demonstrated superior pace and pulled away into a comfortable lead, only for Piastri's afternoon to end prematurely when his gearbox failed on lap 56, triggering a late virtual safety car.
