KMITL Introduces First-Year Project-Based Learning

King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) has rolled out a major institutional strategy under the concept Everywhere is our Living Lab to cultivate innovative graduates capable of elevating Thailand's long-term competitiveness. The university is enhancing its talent and innovation infrastructure across curriculums, faculty, laboratories, and industrial networks to serve as a comprehensive platform for people, technology, and innovative businesses.
A core initiative is allowing first-year students to begin innovating through Team Projects. Learners from diverse disciplines team up to analyze problems, apply knowledge, prototype solutions, and pitch their work to experts and industry leaders. Prominent projects will receive further development and be showcased at KMITL Expo 2026.

As a result of this ecosystem development, KMITL graduates achieved an average employment rate of 85% over the past three years, outperforming the national average of 73.67%. Furthermore, ThaiTopU 2025 ranked KMITL as the #1 public university students want to study at across six major fields, including science, engineering, IT, architecture, logistics, and food technology.
Meanwhile, EduRank 2026 named KMITL Thailand's #1 institution in eight fields, encompassing electronic engineering, telecommunications, electrical engineering, computer engineering, automation and control systems, computer networks, database management, and computer vision, while securing #2 in architecture and interior design, and #3 in UX/UI design and animation.
Transitioning to hands-on project-based learning from the first year reflects how Thai higher education institutions are adapting to meet the demands of the digital job market. Employers increasingly seek practical skills and cross-disciplinary collaboration over traditional GPAs, helping bridge the gap between academic education and high-tech industry requirements.

Prof. Dr. Komsan highlighted the push to build talent in high-demand fields such as AI and automation, semiconductors and advanced electronics, data centers and digital infrastructure, space tech, SMR clean energy, health, food, transportation, and environmental industries through specialized programs like the Bachelor of Science in AI Technology and Bachelor of Engineering in Semiconductor Engineering.
