XPENG's physical AI division has successfully secured over $900 million in a fresh funding round, valuing its robotics business at $6.3 billion. The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer announced the milestone through share purchase agreements with various institutional investors, marking the largest single-round private capital raise in China's physical AI sector in terms of both funds raised and resulting valuation.
He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of XPENG, noted that over the past 12 years, the company has maintained a strong commitment to full-stack in-house research and development. This approach has established a robust technological foundation spanning physical world foundation models, Turing AI chips, and underlying AI infrastructure.

IDG Capital spearheaded the financing round, with participation from Gaorong Ventures. Prominent tech giants Tencent and Alibaba also joined the round as strategic investors. Once the transaction concludes, XPENG will retain controlling ownership of the robotics business, which will remain fully consolidated within the group's financial statements.
The fresh capital will fuel long-term investments in full-stack physical AI development and enhance incentive structures for senior executives and staff members working on robotics. Additional funds are designated for software and hardware R&D, AI model training, high-quality data generation, the creation of end-to-end mass production facilities, and commercial expansion outside China.

XPENG's strategic expansion into humanoid robotics highlights a broader industry trend where electric vehicle manufacturers leverage their automotive manufacturing expertise, supply chains, and semiconductor investments to accelerate physical AI development. By applying automotive-grade quality standards and mass-production processes to robotics, companies aim to achieve commercial viability much faster than traditional standalone robotics startups.
At the center of this strategy is the IRON humanoid robot, featuring an in-house-designed flexible lattice structure, 76 degrees of freedom across its body, and 21 degrees in each hand. Powered by three proprietary Turing AI chips delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of effective computing power, IRON runs its physical AI foundation model locally with low inference latency. XPENG plans to initiate mass production by the end of 2026, deploying units internally before commencing customer deliveries in China and overseas markets in 2027.
