Ikea and Xbox launch Yxstaby collection for 25th anniversary

Ikea has joined forces with Microsoft to introduce a brand new lineup of gaming-inspired furniture and home decor accessories, timing the release to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original Xbox console debut. The nine-piece Yxstaby collection features a TV stand, laptop stand, side table, lounge chair, and multi-functional toolbox, alongside standout items such as a unique stool, decorative cushions, a serving platter, and a mirrored display box designed around recognizable controller motifs.

The Yxstaby range is intended to make integrating play spaces into a home environment much easier while keeping gaming gear neatly tucked away afterward. Every item was created through a joint design effort between Xbox and Ikea teams, combining familiar Scandinavian themes like neutral color palettes and simple shapes with flashes of Xbox's signature green to highlight storage pockets and compartments.

Philip Dilé, an Ikea product design developer, noted that domestic gaming habits have evolved to focus just as much on relaxation and social connection as competitive performance. This shift alters the demands placed on living spaces, prompting the designers to create furniture people genuinely want in their homes rather than items accepted purely out of gaming necessity.

The green X-shaped scatter cushion and the thumbstick-inspired stool stand out as the most heavily Xbox-themed items in the collection. Ikea explained that the stool was engineered using original 3D design files from the Xbox controller, utilizing a textured, grippy surface to prevent users from sliding around instead of accommodating a thumb. Meanwhile, the lounge chair features an under-seat mesh pocket designed for controllers, with enough interior room to hold larger items like magazines and books.
