- Features lighting installations and 3D 'Nong Mamuang' sculptures at Thung Si Mueang
- Highlights 47 candle entries and over 37 dance troupes from July 28-30
Rooted in the Buddhist Lent tradition of candle offering, the Ubon Ratchathani procession has evolved into a major expression of faith, craftsmanship, and local identity. Its longevity reflects the collective contribution of temple communities, candle masters, educational institutions, residents, and government agencies dedicated to preserving these specialized skills.
Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, stated that the candle procession has earned its stellar reputation through deep-rooted faith and collective effort. TAT is providing this living heritage with a stronger platform by pairing its cultural foundations with contemporary presentation and meaningful participation to broaden international awareness and boost local tourism value.

The event is one of three homegrown traditions being elevated as Signature Thailand Events, alongside the Nakhon Phanom Illuminated Boat Procession and the Christmas Star Parade in Sakon Nakhon, supporting the national strategy to promote cultural soft power globally.
Elevating regional festivals into national signature events is a strategic move to distribute tourism revenue to secondary cities. By integrating modern lighting technology and contemporary narratives with authentic local traditions, TAT successfully enhances the appeal of Thai cultural heritage for international visitors and younger generations.
As part of the strategy, the main venue at Thung Si Mueang will feature special lighting installations from July 25-31, alongside light-and-sound shows on July 29 and 30. Two large 3D sculptures of 'Nong Mamuang' will also be displayed at Lan Thian Chaloem Phra Kiat from July 23 to August 13.
