On August 29, 2026, Prof. Dr. Yoschanan Wangsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), accompanied by Mr. Thanarat Jongsutthanamanee, MP for Chiang Rai city, visited the Jim City Community Hall in Rim Kok Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai District, to monitor and address the persistent arsenic contamination in the Kok River, which has long affected local residents' health and livelihoods.
The Ministry of MHESI deployed a research team utilizing advanced synchrotron light technology and nanotechnology, combined with the "AquaNano" system, to develop a specialized arsenic filtration and treatment plant. This innovation successfully transforms raw water from the Kok River into safe tap and drinking water with 100% purity. Furthermore, the system boasts affordable production costs and a scalable design for local deployment, allowing community water systems across Thailand to adopt it immediately.

Applying high-end synchrotron light research to regional water purification highlights MHESI's initiative to leverage advanced science for immediate regional problem-solving. Nevertheless, as the Minister emphasized, long-term sustainability will ultimately require strict law enforcement and source-point pollution control to prevent toxic substances from re-entering natural water resources.
