Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, a party-list Member of Parliament for the Bhumjaithai Party and former Minister of Industry, has spoken out regarding the upcoming mobile cabinet meeting scheduled to take place in Songkhla province from August 31 to September 1, 2026. He stated that this official field visit led by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinwatra's administration and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul aims to directly address grassroots problems, feedback, and concerns rather than merely conducting policy discussions in an office.
Prior to the mobile cabinet sessions, all cabinet ministers are required to arrive in their assigned provinces one day in advance to monitor local progress. Their focus includes driving regional development and tackling low-income issues across the five southernmost border provinces of Songkhla, Satun, Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat. A total of 199 development projects have been proposed, representing an initial budget of over 57 billion baht.

In addition to regional budget allocations, the government is preparing to advance major mega-projects, including an approval request for the second phase of the southern double-track railway spanning three routes from Chumphon to Padang Besar, valued at over 100 billion baht. Other key initiatives involve signing contracts for the Songkhla Lake bridge connecting Krasae Sin and Khao Chaison, the Koh Lanta bridge link, and public hearings for the Chana district development project, strictly adhering to Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) studies and public participation.
Mobile cabinet meetings serve as a strategic instrument for the executive branch to implement regional policies, yet they frequently attract political scrutiny regarding state expenditure and local management. In the context of Thailand's southern border provinces, pushing critical infrastructure like rail networks and grassroots economic initiatives remains a long-term challenge requiring multi-sectoral integration.
Addressing complaints raised by the opposition and People's Party members concerning road closures in Songkhla, Thanakorn clarified that local authorities have thoroughly prepared across all dimensions, including venues, logistics, security, exhibitions, and budget management. He emphasized that any government holding mobile cabinet meetings would implement identical security measures to maintain order, denying allegations that roads were closed exclusively to welcome the Prime Minister.
"อยากให้ทั้งรัฐบาลและฝ่ายค้าน รวมถึงภาคเอกชน และประชาชนในพื้นที่ ช่วยกันคิดว่าจะเดินหน้าเพื่อพี่น้องประชาชนภาคใต้ในอนาคตอย่างไร ให้ความสำคัญกับการติดตามการแก้ไขและป้องกันปัญหาอุทกภัย รวมถึงด้านความมั่นคงและการพัฒนาพื้นที่ภาคใต้เป็นหลัก ดีกว่าเหน็บแนมป้ายสีรัฐบาลรายวันโดยที่คนใต้ไม่ได้ประโยชน์อะไรเลย ถ้าฝ่ายค้านคิดถึงสิ่งที่คนใต้จะได้รับให้มากขึ้น คิดถึงคะแนนเสียงตัวเองให้น้อยลงหน่อยก็คงจะดี"
