Vorasit Partners with IOM to Combat Scam Gangs and Human Trafficking
Deputy Interior Minister welcomes new IOM chief, prioritizing cross-border cybercrime and forced labor issues.

On July 27 at the Ministry of Interior, Deputy Interior Minister Vorasit Leangprasert officially welcomed Ms. Tanja Pacifico, the new Head of Office for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Thailand, during her introductory courtesy visit. Accompanied by Ms. Onuma Wara-saen, Director of the Foreign Affairs Division of the Office of the Permanent Secretary, and relevant officials, both parties discussed ongoing operations and strengthened collaboration in migration management.
Mr. Vorasit extended his congratulations on behalf of the Ministry, expressing a strong commitment to sustaining the longstanding relationship and close cooperation with IOM. He emphasized mutual support for high-efficiency missions across all levels, particularly enhancing migration management capacity, facilitating the resettlement of displaced persons from Myanmar to third countries, and systematically managing temporary shelters under the framework of the National Security Council.

The Deputy Minister acknowledged IOM's vital role in supporting the Thai government and the Ministry of Interior, noting their contributions to border management, protection of migrant workers' rights and welfare, assistance for human trafficking victims, humanitarian aid for displaced persons, disaster preparedness, and capacity building for state officials to meet international standards.
Collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and international bodies like IOM is a crucial strategy against transnational crime. Modern cybercrime syndicates frequently exploit human trafficking and illegal migration channels to recruit forced labor for scam operations in neighboring regions, making cross-border intelligence sharing and international coordination essential for dismantling these networks.
"The critical issue at present is scammers, online deception networks, call center gangs, and technological crimes, which are major agendas that the government prioritizes and is determined to decisively resolve. The whole world is currently suffering massive losses from these threats, which are directly linked to forced labor, illegal migration, and cross-border human trafficking."

Mr. Vorasit stressed that Thailand must unite closely with IOM, foreign nations, and international organizations to exchange information, establish proactive prevention measures, and swiftly eradicate these borderless crimes. The Ministry of Interior stands fully prepared to leverage its subordinate agencies—including the Foreign Affairs Division, the Office of the Permanent Secretary, the Department of Provincial Administration, and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation—to build robust operational mechanisms that ensure security while upholding human dignity.
