Thai Senate Committee Inspects Illegal Border Internet Lines

On August 31, Police Lieutenant General Boonchan Nuansai, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Legal Affairs and Justice, alongside committee members and security officials, convened at the Customs Checkpoint meeting room at the Khlong Luek border crossing in Sa Kaeo province. The meeting, held on August 29, aimed to address technological crimes involving illegal cross-border internet services linked to signal transmission into Cambodia, with local police commanders and administrative officials in attendance.
This field inspection followed up on investigations expanding from a July 9, 2026 operation, where officers raided a house in Aranyaprathet district and found multiple operational server units. Further examination revealed these servers were configured as VPN servers for rent within Galaxy Casino in Cambodia, generating rental fees from users. Continuous tracking of the signal lines subsequently led to the issuance of search warrants on July 20, 2026.

The Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) joined forces with the Burapha Task Force, the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD), provincial police, and security agencies to inspect two primary locations: the residential server site in Aranyaprathet and a three-story commercial building in Ban Pa Rai, Aranyaprathet district, where fiber optic cables were illegally strung from utility poles across private property toward the Cambodian border.
The deliberate installation of unauthorized cross-border fiber optic infrastructure allows criminal networks to bypass regulatory oversight and lawful interception frameworks managed by state authorities. Systematically dismantling and removing the physical cabling rather than simply cutting segments ensures that operators cannot easily splice the lines back together, effectively disrupting digital lifelines for regional scam syndicates.
Based on gathered evidence, authorities concluded that the unauthorized cross-border network was intended to support online casinos, call center scam gangs, and technology-based criminal networks operating inside Cambodia while evading state oversight. Officials initiated legal proceedings against those involved and completely dismantled all related wiring networks, noting that partial cuts would allow offenders to reconnect the system.
