YouTuber Mark "Markiplier" Fischbach has acquired enough shares in GoPro to become its single largest shareholder, securing an 8.5 percent stake in the company, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Fischbach explained that he believes GoPro "seems undervalued" and views his substantial financial investment as part of a broader mission to make filmmaking more accessible. This follows the release of his debut feature film, Iron Lung, earlier this year.
Fischbach recently published a video promoting GoPro's newly released Mission 1 ILS camera, comparing its performance to the much pricier Red Komodo-X. He mentioned in the footage that he intends to utilize the Mission 1 ILS for his upcoming movie projects.

While the video included an affiliate code allowing viewers to purchase the new camera gear, there appeared to be no explicit mention of his major financial stake in the manufacturing company within the video itself or its caption.
"This is not a line I see crossed very often, but to each their own."
Marques Brownlee
Fellow tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee responded to the investment news via a post on Threads, sharing a still frame from Fischbach's video and noting that it is an unusual crossover between a prominent creator and hardware corporate ownership.
Markiplier's massive investment highlights a growing trend of top-tier digital creators directly influencing or acquiring stakes in the hardware ecosystems they rely on. While this partnership could inject fresh marketing momentum into GoPro's hardware business, it also sparks important industry discussions regarding transparent disclosure when creators promote products of companies they hold major financial interests in.
GoPro has not yet issued an immediate response or official comment regarding inquiries about Fischbach's newly acquired shareholder status.
