Manchester City have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign midfielder Enzo Fernandez for a joint-British record fee of £125m. Fernandez originally transferred to Stamford Bridge from Benfica in 2023 for £107m before deciding to push for a move away from the club since March.
Both clubs negotiated over the 24-hour period to finalize the agreement, and the player is now set to undergo a medical examination ahead of signing a long-term contract with the Etihad Stadium outfit. Personal terms are not expected to be an issue. The transfer allows Fernandez to reunite with City manager Enzo Maresca, who previously managed him during his tenure at Chelsea.
The deal comes after Fernandez missed Chelsea's 4-3 Premier League win against Brighton and a 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Luton, following reports from Argentina that he requested to be left out of the squads. Fernandez had initially targeted a move to Real Madrid, but the Spanish club released a statement ruling out any offer.
