Tecno Bezelless Hands-On: The First Truly Bezel-Free Phone

A decade ago, smartphone manufacturers were obsessed with shrinking bezels to achieve edge-to-edge displays. Eventually, progress stalled once bezels were reduced to roughly a millimeter on every side, and the industry seemed content to leave it there. Now, Tecno, a budget brand in the same family as Itel and Infinix, has stepped forward to see if the boundary could be pushed slightly further with a new device.
The company provided a prototype of the Bezelless phone ahead of its official exhibition at the IFA trade show in Berlin. The device features a 6.78-inch, 1.5K resolution display running at a 144Hz refresh rate with virtually no black border surrounding the active screen area, save for a microscopic line visible only at a sharp angle beneath the frame.

The secret behind this design lies in a dual-layer glass construction where the top layer extends to the edge of the frame, while the lower glass layer and the OLED panel sit underneath it. This required building the phone backward by mounting the display from the rear and securing it from the front with a specialized adhesive placed between the frame and the lower glass.
When placed side by side with flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus, the Bezelless frame appears fractionally thinner around the screen. While the functional upgrade is modest and does not fundamentally alter everyday smartphone usage since a physical frame remains, the Android interface, photos, and videos stretch fully to the edges without black bars.
Achieving a truly bezel-free appearance requires overcoming significant hardware hurdles regarding structural integrity and manufacturing complexity. Tecno's clever dual-glass approach demonstrates that bypassing standard display assembly limitations is possible, even if this specific concept device is not slated for commercial release.
