Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin has taken swift action following public complaints regarding a mysterious foul odor affecting residents in a key Bangkok business district.
The disturbance was reported along Rama IX Soi 6, Rama IX Road, Bang Kapi sub-district, Huai Khwang district, Bangkok. Affected residents raised concerns on social media, describing the smell as resembling fuel, causing a sharp burning sensation in the nose and skin irritation.

Following the complaints, the Minister specifically directed the Pollution Control Department to prioritize inspections around Data Center facilities operating near the affected residential zones to trace the exact origin of the noxious emissions.
Data centers are massive digital infrastructure facilities that consume immense amounts of power and typically rely on large diesel generators for emergency backup. Inspecting fuel storage tanks, exhaust systems, and cooling mechanisms is critical when investigating unexpected fuel-like odors in urban areas.
Authorities are collaborating closely with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and other relevant agencies to audit comprehensive infrastructure systems, ranging from cooling networks and backup power units to fuel storage and drainage systems.
"I have instructed the PCD to take public grievances seriously and swiftly identify the exact source of the problem. If any pollution violations are found, legal action must be taken immediately while resolving the issue to minimize community impact."
