Ugreen Announces HomeAgent Smart Home NAS and AI Hub

Ugreen, a brand widely known for phone power banks, chargers, and NAS storage solutions, is expanding heavily into the smart home sector. At the IFA technology show, the company unveiled its HomeAgent smart home platform, combining security camera storage, on-device artificial intelligence, and smart home control into a single device managed by a voice assistant named Uliya, with the promise that all processing runs locally.

At the core of the HomeAgent system is a hub acting as the brain of the smart home, running a local-first AI that users can interact with using natural language through Uliya. There are three hub configurations available, each storing all data locally and processing video footage directly on the device to maintain privacy without monthly subscription fees, though likely requiring a higher initial hardware cost.

The primary pitch is that user data never leaves the home, addressing key consumer concerns regarding privacy and recurring subscription fees. Ugreen states that its powerful on-device AI provides features such as cross-camera tracking, smart alerts for people, vehicles, pets, and packages, and live status inquiries like asking where a pet is located.

The system also features AI-powered video search, text descriptions of events, and natural language voice control over smart home devices and automations. Alongside local camera footage storage, the system can house personal files including music, movies, and photos, functioning similarly to a traditional NAS.
