Just hours before Apple's first major launch event since John Ternus assumed the role of CEO, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has revealed that the company's long-awaited folding smartphone will officially carry the moniker iPhone Duo, moving away from the previously rumored iPhone Ultra title.
According to the midnight report, the device will command a starting price of $2,000 for the base model equipped with 256GB of storage, while the top-tier configuration featuring 2TB of storage will cost approximately $3,000. Shipments are slated to commence as early as October, offering buyers two initial color options: white and dark blue.

Priced at $2,000, the entry-level cost for the iPhone Duo places it slightly above the base variants of Google's Pixel 11 Pro Fold and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, both of which start at $1,899, though it sits below the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra's price tag of $2,099.99.
Apple's decision to adopt the Duo name is notable given its previous usage by Microsoft for the Surface Duo dual-screen hardware line and Google's past messaging app. This branding choice underscores Apple's focus on dual-screen productivity, multi-app workflows, and bridging the usability gap between smartphones and tablets.
On the functional front, the foldable device is expected to handle side-by-side iPhone applications natively, deliver iPad-grade multitasking capabilities, and offer full support for the Apple Pencil as an active stylus input method for enhanced productivity.
