AirPods 5 Launched: Open-Ear Design with 50% Better ANC

Apple has once again shaken up the open-ear headphone market by introducing the AirPods 5, integrating top-class Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) into a tip-less earbud design. This release aims to satisfy users who desire tranquility without the snug discomfort of in-ear models, all while offering the technology at a more accessible price point.

The core enhancement centers around a newly engineered multi-port acoustic architecture inspired by the flagship AirPods Pro 3. Working in tandem with a next-generation adaptive EQ and advanced computational processing, the new system delivers active noise cancellation that outperforms the AirPods 4 by up to 50 percent.

Additionally, the device features Adaptive Audio to smoothly blend external sound modes with ANC based on real-time environments, alongside Conversation Awareness which automatically lowers audio volume the moment the user begins speaking to someone nearby. For durability, AirPods 5 upgrades protection against dust, sweat, and water to an IP57 rating, supported by a redesigned battery offering up to 5 hours of listening time per charge with ANC enabled, and extending up to 22 hours total with the charging case.

Integrating high-level ANC into an open-ear design presents a significant acoustic engineering challenge, as open structures naturally allow ambient noise to enter.
