Zack Polanski, a London Assembly member, has been selected to run as the Green Party candidate in the upcoming by-election for the Holborn and St Pancras constituency, scheduled to take place on October 8, 2026, as he campaigns to enter Parliament.
He secured the party nomination following a vote by members of the Camden Green Party, defeating local councillor Hamza Chowdhury in the selection process.

Reflecting on his candidacy, Polanski stated that while the Greens might be the underdogs in the electoral race, they possess the momentum required to achieve a breakthrough victory.
"I love this place but I also know times are tough here in Holborn and St Pancras. My story of constantly moving around flats is such a common story for Londoners and I know so many people are struggling right now."
Announcing the ballot outcome, Green MP Hannah Spencer noted that party members had overwhelmingly backed Polanski. In earlier local elections for Camden Council held earlier this year, the Green Party finished firmly in second place behind Labour.
This upcoming by-election serves as a critical litmus test for the Green Party's ambitions to challenge and eventually replace Labour within inner-city constituencies. Labour has maintained firm control over this London seat since its creation in 1983.
Labour's candidate for the vacant seat is Sagal Abdi-Wali, leader of Camden Council. The vacancy arose after former Prime Minister Sir Keir announced his resignation as an MP to concentrate on international affairs duties.
