On September 11, 2026, Mr. Sophon Sarum, in his capacity as President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives, traveled to Phutthaisong District, Buri Ram Province, to preside over a housing handover ceremony for vulnerable citizens, including disabled and underprivileged individuals. Local officials, community leaders, and area residents gathered to witness the handover event.
This initiative was organized to celebrate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King's birthday anniversary on July 28, 2026, aiming to dedicate merit to the monarch while tangibly improving the living standards of underprivileged citizens.
Mr. Sophon Sarum explained the selection criteria and screening process for the project, stating that recipients were chosen based on severe housing necessity and hardship, alongside evaluations of their lifestyle behavior and status as upstanding community members.
Local housing assistance projects for vulnerable groups serve as a vital link connecting legislative branches with grassroots hardships. Establishing strict criteria regarding good conduct and drug-free backgrounds reflects an effort to promote social standards alongside welfare improvements. The direct site visit by the National Assembly President allows policymakers to witness housing inequality firsthand and address local needs efficiently.
Candidates considered for the project must demonstrate good conduct, have no history of involvement with illicit drugs, and exhibit steadfast loyalty to the monarchy. This ensures that the assistance fulfills the genuine intentions of the royal celebration project and benefits citizens in true need.
During the visit, Mr. Sophon delivered the first completed house to 65-year-old Mrs. Pranee Thepphotha, a resident of Ban Sisa Raet, Ma Fueang Sub-district, Phutthaisong District. Mrs. Pranee works as a general laborer and supports a three-member household, which includes 73-year-old Mr. Prasith Thepphotha, who suffers from paralysis on his right side and requires continuous daily care as a bedridden patient, alongside their daughter, Miss Jidapha Thepphotha.
