Georgia O'Keeffe 2026: Architecture and Artist Homes

The exhibition featuring the works of Georgia O'Keeffe is organized geographically rather than chronologically, closely following the various homes and locations where she lived throughout her life. It opens with visual representations reflecting a more pastoral side of America, filled with serene lakes, traditional barns, and vast blue skies.

The collection then transitions to her urban chapter in New York City, where she and her husband, fellow artist Alfred Stieglitz, resided on different floors of the Shelton Hotel. As she moved higher and higher up the building, she became deeply captivated by the sweeping views of the cityscape, which heavily influenced her artistic perspective.

During her time in New York, her paintings also explored the passage of time across a single day, capturing shifting lights with her signature moody color palette. Works like New York Street with Moon from 1925 depict a bright orange daylight fading into a cloudy blue night, featuring a white moon peeking through clouds alongside the powerful glow of a street lamp hovering above a flashing red traffic light.
