According to the original itinerary, Burnham was scheduled to host a gathering of business leaders at Downing Street on Monday, followed by a keynote speech at the annual Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Brighton on Tuesday. Both appearances were called off to allow the prime minister time with his grieving family.

Back in July, Burnham spoke publicly about his father's health struggles, explaining that the ordeal served as a major catalyst for his commitment to reforming adult social care in England. He had previously shared that his father's illness had advanced to the point where he was no longer aware that his son had secured the nation's highest office.
