On September 15, 2026, at Government House, Deputy Interior Minister Phonphee Suwanwatthi addressed the progress regarding the revocation of the Jewish cemetery in Chachoengsao province, stating that at 5:00 AM, the Chabad organization team carried out the relocation of the four bodies to a cemetery in Chonburi province, having notified Chachoengsao and preparing to inform Chonburi authorities as well.
Mr. Phonphee noted that he instructed local administrative departments to observe the operation closely due to concerns over potential body tampering or unauthorized transfers. Previously, a deceased person's wife expressed a desire to retrieve the bodies for a ceremony, which he found questionable since the bodies were already buried. Consequently, local authorities in both provinces were assigned to oversee the process.
The strict regulation of the Chachoengsao Jewish cemetery, known as the Chachoengsao model, highlights the Thai Ministry of Interior's renewed focus on land use compliance and foreign business operations. This crackdown extends beyond cemeteries, tying into broader efforts to investigate over 10,000 suspicious corporate entities linked to foreign nominee structures, signaling a proactive regulatory approach by the government.
Regarding nationwide order, Mr. Phonphee revealed that on September 14, he chaired a meeting with the Ministry of Interior's ad-hoc committee on social order, instructing the Department of Provincial Administration to compile precise figures of all cemeteries and cremation facilities across the country within three days.
Once the complete list is submitted, the ministry will verify whether each facility holds valid operating licenses. If any violations are found, authorities will enforce the Chachoengsao model to revoke permits and pursue legal action firmly without exception.
