Rare Matte 2004 Ferrari Enzo Heads to Auction

A uniquely specified 2004 Ferrari Enzo featuring a rare Nero Opaco matte exterior finish is preparing to cross the auction block. According to records, this vehicle stands out as the only customer-ordered matte-painted example from the factory production run. Construction of the car commenced on June 8, 2004, and it left the Maranello factory that October before residing briefly at a family property in London and subsequently moving to the Asia-Pacific region.

Penned by Ken Okuyama at Pininfarina and introduced in 2002, the Enzo utilized carbon-fiber architecture derived directly from Ferrari's Formula 1 engineering. Beneath the rear bonnet lies a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12 engine generating 660 horsepower, complemented by carbon-ceramic brakes, push-rod suspension, and advanced electronic controls. While Ferrari initially produced 399 standard units alongside a 400th car dedicated to Pope John Paul II in 2005, the overwhelming majority of buyers opted for traditional gloss shades like Rosso Corsa and Giallo Modena.

The unique exterior specification reflects its commission history, having been ordered by the Brunei royal family during an era when matte paint was far outside automotive conventions. In 2022, the hypercar returned to Europe for an extensive cosmetic restoration at Carrozzeria Zanasi, the specialist facility servicing Ferrari's elite models. More than 110,000 euros was allocated to replace components such as headlights, rear bonnet glass, and interior switches, followed by a respray in its original Matte Nero Opaco. Ferrari Classiche later certified that the car retains its numbers-matching chassis, engine, gearbox, and bodywork.
