Snap is making a fresh push into artificial intelligence with the introduction of "Specs Intelligence," a new AI assistant built to connect with a user's digital accounts and assist with work tasks and travel tracking. While it shares similarities with other AI assistants like Meta’s Muse and Gemini’s Spark, Snap is positioning Specs Intelligence as an "anticipatory AI service" meant to help users manage daily priorities and work toward longer-term goals.
Although Specs Intelligence launches alongside "Specs," Snap’s first consumer augmented reality glasses, users do not need the hardware to try it. The service is available on iOS in preview starting Wednesday, and users can join a waitlist for the full early-access experience coming to Mac. Snap has not publicly disclosed specific details on how the preview differs from the final release.

According to Snap, Specs Intelligence works by building an understanding of a user's goals, priorities, relationships, and routines through connected apps and tools. For an upcoming trip, it can aggregate flight, hotel, and dining reservations while flagging any work deadlines that overlap with the travel dates.
Developing an AI assistant that deeply integrates into personal communications and emails represents a major convenience leap, but it also amplifies privacy concerns. Users are understandably cautious about granting broad data access to automated systems. Snap's proactive stance on barring connected personal content from model training serves as a critical trust-building measure in a landscape where users remain wary of data-hungry AI agents.
When used with the Specs AR glasses, the AI can pull personal content and project it directly into the user's field of view when relevant, such as when requesting a morning daily briefing. Promotional videos demonstrate that Specs Intelligence is capable of integrating with everyday productivity platforms like Gmail and Slack.
Under the hood, Specs Intelligence utilizes "a proprietary combination of open-source models hosted in the US alongside local LLMs," according to spokesperson Cassie Bumgarner, who noted that the model mix will be regularly updated. However, building consumer trust remains a substantial hurdle for Snap as it navigates the delicate balance of offering deep AI integration without overstepping privacy boundaries.
