Indian online travel agency Cleartrip has rolled out a brand-new loyalty program called Elite, shifting the focus from post-purchase rewards to solving hesitations that occur before a transaction is even made. The company is positioning the program as a direct solution to reduce what it calls "travel anxiety."
Manjari Singhal, Cleartrip’s chief growth and business officer, told Skift that customers frequently hesitate to book when they are uncertain whether their travel plans will actually pan out as intended.

The centerpiece of the Elite program is not massive point accumulations, but rather peace of mind for travelers. One of its standout features enables customers to modify their domestic flight dates for a fee of just INR 9 (9.4 cents), which is designed to encourage travelers to commit to bookings earlier.
Aside from the low-cost date-change option, the Elite program includes several additional perks:
- Discounts of up to 20% on three eligible hotel bookings.
- A holiday package voucher valued at INR 5,000 (approximately $52).
- SuperCoins cashback rewards and priority customer support.
Normally, customers qualify for Elite status by completing two bookings within a 12-month period. However, Cleartrip has integrated the program with its parent ecosystem, allowing existing Flipkart Gold and Myntra Insider members to bypass this qualification requirement entirely.
"Customers may value points, but they also value the ability to change a plan without absorbing a large financial penalty."
Manjari Singhal, Cleartrip
Cleartrip's introduction of the Elite program highlights a strategic shift among online travel agencies in India, moving away from purely transactional price wars toward proactive customer experience management. By directly addressing the financial fear of changing plans, Cleartrip aims to leverage Flipkart's vast e-commerce user base to foster stronger customer retention.
