The Royal Thai Navy is pressing forward with its S26T submarine acquisition project by executing a military assistance agreement to streamline project management and ensure delivery is completed by or before September 17, 2026, boosting maritime defense capabilities.
Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiphan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, announced the progress from the Royal Thai Navy Headquarters, noting that the vital signing ceremony took place during the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum held in Beijing, People's Republic of China.

The S26T submarine project has experienced various administrative and diplomatic adjustments over the years. The direct involvement of defense ministers from both Thailand and China in signing a military aid agreement at an international platform like the Beijing Xiangshan Forum highlights a government-to-government effort to resolve previous delays and ensure the project adheres to its newly established timeline.
During the event, General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Thailand's Minister of Defense, and Admiral Dong Jun, Minister of Defense of the People's Republic of China, served as official witnesses for the signing ceremony dedicated to supporting the S26T submarine program.
Admiral Naresh acted as the representative of the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy to sign the agreement on behalf of Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, with the ceremony hosted at the Beijing International Convention Center (BICC).
This bilateral signing marks a crucial milestone and a tangible success in military cooperation between the armed forces of both nations. Both sides place high importance on supporting the project to ensure the Thai Navy receives efficient, operational submarines ready for active deployment on schedule.
