Anthropic has brought back and revamped the Projects feature within Claude Code, empowering users to control a team of artificial intelligence agents simultaneously under a unified roof. The system equips agents with shared memory, common goals, and a shared library of files and artifacts, functioning similarly to other group AI management platforms.
Under the hood, every thread operates as an independent Claude Code cloud session working on its own dedicated branch and repository copy. A designated coordinator keeps tasks organized, and any overlapping code modifications across threads are resolved via standard merge conflict procedures just like a typical PR. Furthermore, individual threads can split delegated tasks into smaller chunks using subagents, loops, and workflows to accelerate large assignments.

Users retain the flexibility to interact with each thread individually or monitor and update progress through the main project chat interface. At launch, these threads execute entirely in the cloud, though Anthropic has confirmed that support for local tools and code will roll out very soon.
Anthropic's shift toward multi-agent coordination reflects a broader industry trend moving away from standalone single-agent models toward collaborative AI teams. This architecture effectively handles complex, large-scale workflows and significantly boosts automation capabilities in software engineering.
The updated Projects feature is available in beta starting today exclusively for select Claude Pro and Max subscribers, with wider access scheduled to expand later to all Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users, as well as Cowork and regular Claude chat environments.
