On September 18, 2026, Air Chief Marshal Prapas Sornchaidee, Director of the Thailand-Cambodia Situation Information Center (JIC), addressed statements made by Cambodian officials regarding an upcoming international conference on combating online scams that referenced neighboring countries. He stated that Thailand welcomes all serious efforts to dismantle scam syndicates, noting that this issue is a transnational crime affecting citizens across multiple nations rather than a localized problem for just Thailand or Cambodia.
Nevertheless, the JIC Director cautioned against dragging the online scam suppression efforts into accusations regarding territorial invasion or occupation. He advised Cambodian authorities to thoroughly re-examine the Joint Statement signed by both nations on December 27, 2025, to ensure a complete and accurate understanding of the agreed terms.
Relating technological crimes and scam syndicates to sovereignty or territorial disputes often arises in politically sensitive bilateral contexts.
