Is Memory the Individual? Testing Swapped Brain Graphs
An experiment testing identical artificial brains with swapped memories reveals that memory graphs can override hardware and drive behavior.

In a previous post, destroying the substrate and observing what returned showed that a skill learned through plasticity died with the brain that held it. However, an external memory handed to a fresh, untrained brain reinstated the behavior anyway. Experience proved to be separable from the specific hardware that recorded it.
That was impressive, but it remained tame. It was still the author's memory returning to a copy of their own brain type, confirming portability. It did not touch the harder question: what happens when the memory and the brain disagree about ownership? If the brain remains identical and the memory is swapped, does the individual follow biology or story?

To isolate the question, a clean room was required with no architectural differences and no sensory drift. Two individuals were created identically down to the wire, sharing the same connectome architecture and wiring recipe while viewing the exact same cues in the same world. The only difference was the answer key dictating the correct action for each cue.
In world A, a given cue called for one action, while in world B, that same cue called for a different one. Through experience, the two became separate individuals with completely diverging behaviors while their hardware stayed identical. This removed weight-individuality as a confound, leaving the memory graph as the only potential traveler.
